ACHIEVEMENTS AND OBJECTIVES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN HIGHER EDUCATION
2On June 17-20, the 11th International Conference of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking agency was held in Nice, France. The forum, organized jointly with the French Côte d'Azur University and the University of Indonesia, was very effective in promoting the achievements of our country in the field of higher education, including sustainable development projects, and developing cooperation in this area.
The conference, dedicated to the theme "Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education: The History of Our Organization and Society," was held with the aim of developing cooperation on sustainable development among higher education institutions from different countries of the world, exchanging experiences, and promoting joint ecological initiatives. Begench Yovbagshyyev, Head of the Academic Department of the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University, Kadyr Amanov, Head of the Technology Transfer Center, and Serdar Gedayev, Head of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology of the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology, represented our country at the conference.
As is known, along with a number of higher education institutions of our country, the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov was included in the "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings" in 2023. It took 474th place in the prestigious international list according to the results of 2024.
Within the framework of the conference, there were speeches, discussions and presentations in several sections. As it was noted, higher vocational education plays a special role in the development of the country, the world economy, solving upcoming tasks, important challenges, and in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in general. The University of Indonesia, which is putting forward important initiatives in this area, established the "UI GreenMetric World University Ranking" global university ranking in 2010. Its main goal is to assess the efforts and achievements of vocational schools in the field of sustainable development and ecology. It evaluates the performance of world universities in 6 areas, namely, university structures and their impact on the environment; indicators of energy consumption and its conservation; waste recycling; environmental education and scientific research; efficient use of water; transport policy.
Representatives of the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University presented a project entitled “Sustainable Waste Management: Production of Organomineral Fertilizers from Animal Husbandry Wastes”. It describes ways to process agricultural wastes in an environmentally friendly way and produce organomineral fertilizers.
A representative of the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technologies of Turkmenistan, Serdar Gedayev, presented the results of scientific research conducted in our country on the use of biofuel obtained from Chlorella vulgaris microalgae as a sustainable energy source, as well as on the environmentally friendly processing of irrigation water.
Within the framework of the 11th international conference of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking agency, the organization welcomed new members, discussed achievements in achieving sustainable development goals in higher education, and discussed future challenges.
